In 1994, the Backman family launched Sirius Shipping on Donsö, an island known for its maritime heritage. It all began with one small tanker and a family fully involved in every aspect—from ownership to crewing. This close-knit approach laid the foundation for Sirius’s culture. Over the years, Sirius has thoughtfully grown its organization and fleet.

Sirius shore organization is a full in-house management with all relevant functions for operating an efficient, reliable, safe, and sustainable shipping company. Our shore organization is an important support function for our crews onboard and we work hard to ensure that our personnel ashore and our crews onboard operate as a team.

Management
Our strategy is and always will be to focus on offering efficient tanker shipping with a high level of customization and readiness to meet our customers changing needs. Our top priorities are safety, reliability and environmental awareness. The Sirius star is our symbol of quality – The Sirius standard.
Technical & purchasing
The department makes sure that Sirius stay updated on all relevant technical aspects of running the Sirius Fleet. With a vast experience from both shore and onboard, the department provide technical support for our ships and make sure that maintenance, purchasing, statutory inspections etc. run smooth. Our newbuilding program and our projects under our Pathway to Zero initiative are also important activities carried out in the Technical dept.
Quality assurance
The department is responsible for ensuring that Sirius deliver quality with the highest safety standard by making sure that our policies, procedures and guidelines meet and exceed both legislative and industry standards. The department is responsible for the quality management system, document control, reporting, audit planning, TMSA compliance and much more. Our experienced Marine Superintendents also have senior experience in cargo handling and navigation.
Crewing
Sirius is a company built by people and this department make sure that we recruit the right personnel and ensure that they are given the best possible conditions for both professional & personal growth. A part from making sure that all manning requirements for our fleet is met, the Crewing department also carry our other important HR functions, such as assisting with crew changes, monitoring crew performance and training.
Accounting
The department carries out day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll administration and tax accounting. Its staff keep shipping records and accounts and provide financial support for the ships. They maintain our good banking relations and send the information legally required of us as an employer to the relevant authorities. There is also a dedicated function for CSRD.
Pathway to Zero stands for Sirius’s commitment and to the voyage we have ahead of us. Our long-term goal is Zero emissions. It shows our commitment to achieving this goal, so whenever you see it on one of our ships, you know why it's there. It’s our pathway to zero emissions.
